TERRY & WAYNE THROW DOWN A
CHALLENGE |
DATE: December 2004 |
Father
and son duo Terry and Wayne Griffiths have thrown down the
gauntlet to all the fathers and sons from across the area.
A festive ‘lads and dads’ tournament is being staged in the
Matchroom club.
The winners will receive a prize trip to Dublin to see the 2005
Irish Masters Snooker Championship.
Flights,
accommodation for two nights and tickets for the semi-finals and
finals of the event are included.
The prizes, the first of their kind to be offered at the
Matchroom, are worth around £600 each.
The winners will fly from Cardiff, be transferred to their hotel
in Dublin for two nights and be treated to world class snooker
matches culminating in the final on March 13.
The event is close to the heart of Terry Griffiths, who is the
only player to
have
won it three years in a row - in 1980, 1981 and 1982.
The lads and dads tournament is open to fathers and sons,
grandfathers and grandsons and uncles and nephews. It will be
staged at the Matchroom on Sunday 19 December.
Former world champion Terry, and his son Wayne, a qualified
Welsh snooker coach, are among the family teams to have already
entered.
Defending champions John Smith senior and John Smith junior from
Bynea will also be taking part.
The tournament will be fully handicapped so that all players can
compete on a level playing field.
Terry said: “This is the second lads and dads tournament. Last
year’s event was very successful and we are hoping even more
players will enter this year.
“It is open to all members and the final will be played on the
championship table in the 100 seater Matchroom.
“We would especially like to see people who do not usually enter
tournaments.”
The draw is at 2.30pm and all players are asked to be ready by
2.15pm.
Entry is £3 per pair and there will be a plate tournament for
first round losers.
The closing date to register is December 17.
Terry added: “We wish everyone the best of luck.
“I am confident that the standard will be very high and that
players will be putting in extra practice to try and secure
their prize.”
