Match Notes Here we go for the first session... 13 points apiece and now another chance for Maguire.. he doesn't capitalise... Perry moves 33-15 ahead and he's got another scoring opening and now he's pushing on to the winning margin and he's won the first frame.... Perry's motored on to 37 in frame two... and he's flying in this break, which moves along to 51, his run ends at 68, he adds another 16 to make sure of the frame... Perry is already at the table in frame three, he's compiled 31 and counting... he's onto 61 and closing in on another frame... the frame is safe, can he close out with a century... on 81 now and he completes the ton, what a brilliant start today by Joe Perry.. Yet again Perry is first in with a scoring chance... this time he breaks down at 30... Perry has won the tactical exchange so he's going to stretch his lead more here, there goes the red he needs to secure a 4-0 lead... Maguire will be glad to get off for the interval and gather his thoughts... The interval may have worked for Maguire, he's first to the table, on 16 so far and now proceeded to 47... Maguire's effort ends at 54... The Scot gets another opening to try and secure his first frame of the day, but only adds one more red and now he's given Perry a chance... he's made 28 but missed the last red, Maguire should win the frame - or should he, he's left the red hanging over the pocket... it's still nearly impossible for Joe to clear up, yellow, green and brown are all tight on cushions.. so he's 26 down now on the yellow... bad safety from Joe leaves the yellow on for Maguire... Perry needs a snooker on the green, Maguire gets the green and puts his first frame on the board... Joe fires in a good long red and embarks on a break in frame six and makes 26... he's left Maguire an opportunity... and he's mustered 38 already at this visit and onto 58 and looking good to pull another frame back and as he reaches 73, the frame is safe, the break concludes at 91... Maguire opens a 23 point lead now in frame seven, the come back is well under way now... he's struggled to get any position but he's got a third visit now to try and add to his 38-1 lead... it's gone wrong again, he's stuck on the reds again... Perry got a great red but couldn't gain position, now Maguire's fired a red in and this time he's got decent position... and at last he's clinched the frame... onto frame eight, the last today... Maguire is first in and how pleased he'd be to get out at 4-4 after his terrible start... he's opened a 39-0 lead and the frame hinges on the tactical exchange now... there are two reds near the baulk line which is complicating the safety.. this is an excellent safety battle, high quality from both players, definitely a sequence for the connoisseurs... it's been going ten minutes so far without a ball being potted.. at last Maguire breaks the deadlock with the thinnest of reds to the centre.. his lead crawls up to 46-0, he's not got position.. there are seven reds still left, black and brown are on cushions and so are two reds... there's a bit of mileage in the frame yet.. Perry finds a red, only a tough red along the top rail facing him though.. he's got the black but no position on the reds... Maguire's got in again and now he should be able to win the frame at this visit... 66-8 ahead now, 3 reds left... and he's won the frame and levelled the match after a fascinating afternoon's snooker Good afternoon, welcome to the second session of this match, nicely balanced at 4-4... Perry opens with 16 but no ball on for either player at the moment... these two have to play back to back sessions today, 8 frames this afternoon and then back at 19.00 for the conclusion of the match... Perry creates another opening... and he's now 54 ahead, the break ends at 51, a 67 point lead... Maguire has a red to pot, pots one, misses and then gets in again, again falters and again gets back in.. but can't mount a comeback and Perry takes the frame.... Maguire's got his first decent scoring chance this afternoon here, he's moved 46-21 ahead and he's at the table... and wins the frame... but we haven't yet seen the form from Maguire that he showed when going 8-0 up on Robertson the other day... Perry is constructing a break in frame eleven, 44 so far... but he misses and lets Maguire in who has run in 74 now to win the frame and finishes with 85... turn for turn continues and it's Perry at the table on a run of 36... Perry comes to a halt at 59... Maguire's crafted an opening, 23 scored at the moment, 3 reds left, two on side cushions... Maguire misses a red, nothing left for Perry... what a great pot there by Maguire... but only 8 points, misses the next red with the rest... Perry still leads 59-35, now only two reds left, both near the top cushion.. Maguire's got them, six behind on the brown... he clear to pink to lead 7-5 at the interval... Joe Perry has the first chance as they resume... he's on 17, has opened the pack and the reds have opened a bit now... Perry breaks down in ideal position having made only 37, he's gifted this lot to Maguire... the Scot doesn't punish him, missed that pink, trails 23-37... Perry has a nasty little clip to the corner off this red, he's chosen a different shot, but he's pushed both remaining reds safe... the stalemate is broken by Perry who pots a beautiful red to get n the black, but still the problem is the last red, in the middle of the top cushion... Perry is 49-27 up, the red is still safe... not any more Perry has got it and wins the frame... that's a very positive break off by Maguire, he's opened the reds right out... that forced Perry into a pot, which he's missed... Maguire can't turn that into a real chance.. but now Perry does have a chance... and he blows it as well... so Maguire has a chance, but forgot to pot the brown... it's a bit nervy at the moment... this time Perry pushes on, makes 52 and so Maguire needs a snooker, the last 3 reds are all behind the baulk line... Maguire flukes a red, lands nicely on the black, but he's got to keep going right round the table to get a red and back again for the black, then he can think about getting the snooker, 46 behind 43 on... he's potted a brilliant black to get back round, and now he'll lay the snooker on the last red, 38 behind... Joe gets the red and clears up, it's level again, what a match this is building into... this is going to be the last frame of the session, to give them a rest before tonight... Perry was going nicely but faltered at 44, Maguire is coming back, but the last two reds, on the cushion, will be a problem.. neither player seems able to close a frame in one visit this afternoon, the balls keeping going awkward... Maguire closes to 32-44 behind, but Perry's got the last two reds... that double on the brown seals it for Perry, he'll lead 8-7 ahead of tonight's final session.. a brief rest for the players and they'll be back in a few minutes for the final session, Perry gained that crucial frame advantage when they finished this afternoon... a chance apiece goes begging until Maguire settles onto a break 56 ahead now on a run of 48... his effort ends at 55, he's 63 ahead... Perry is fighting back, on 34 now, the run ends at 50, he's 13 behind on the blue.. Maguire gets blue and pink and they're level again... Perry opens with 59 in frame 17... Maguire is getting right back into this frame, on 33, 30 behind with two reds left... he's disposed of them and now just needs pink and black to steal the frame... what a great 70 clearance... Perry's shrugged that off, he's building a break in the next... 27 so far and now onto 40, the break ends at 62 but it's enough to win the frame.... Maguire's unlucky to get a kick there and here's a nice chance for Perry... that's a very good black along the top rail to keep the break going, he's 39 ahead, 4 reds left, he needs two of them... and that 55 wins him the frame... so Perry has a one frame lead as they go off for the interval... a chance either way in frame twenty.. Perry gained a 40-1 lead but now Maguire has got the reds open made 23 so far.. and he's on 52 now, two reds left, he's on one of them but it's not easy on the top rail... he can't get on the last red so the break ends at 60 and he's snookered Perry... he's escaped but left it on... Maguire's over cut it and got away with it... Maguire's got the red and black so lead by 28 on the yellow... so it's level again... this match is assuming epic proportions and it's a best of five now... Maguire's got a terrible kick on a red, sent it miles from the pocket and Perry is taking advantage, 46 now, he's missed a red, using the rest having made 53... he's not left much at the moment, the pack is tight, another red is tied up with the blue... Here comes the Maguire counter-attack as this frame follows the same pattern as many of the previous, one player gets in, doesn't close the frame out and there's scope for a counter-punch.. he's on the last read only 8 points behind... perfect on the yellow, it should be Maguire's frame now, it is... Maguire is beginning to look stronger now... he's got in first this time, made 28 but unlucky to stick on the pack there so it's end of break.. and it may come to nothing, there's a distinct possibility of a re-rack if they don't stop tip tapping into the pack... Joe's potted a superb red along the top rail, they've got some bottle these boys... he's negated Maguire's lead, there are five reds left... a good 50 but it's not enough, that red stayed out of the centre pocket... Maguire's mad a plant, the last two reds are open... good chance, well it was, what a kick that was... Jan Verhaas is feverishly rubbing the cue ball clean, and now Joe's potted a good yellow and cleared, what a frame that was, it's 11-11 and now a best of three! Maguire's found a plant from the pack, but not on a colour... it's nice to see there's still time for humour amidst the tension... Maguire's safety left the black on the brink of the pocket, Joe came round and thumped his cue on the floor to see if the black would drop! but it actually means that with that pocket dropped the safety is going to push all the reds towards that pocket... a lot of oohs and aahs as reds go perilously close to the black... Maguire musters ten points but the reds are still there, the black is still hanging... yellow and green have now both gone to the baulk cushion, Joe's got a red and colour but nothing else on... Maguire leads 22-8... and after all that, they're going to have a re-rack... so back to 11-11, it's still a best of three, it's just half an hour later now! We have thousands of readers from all over the world, but a very warm welcome tonight to IBSF Secretary Mohammed Kammah from Cairo, who's tuned in to keep up with this exciting match... This re-started frame looks a bit more orthodox, Perry made 8, broke down and now Maguire has an opening... and a good one, because he's progressed to 50, and then misses that red, went across it a bit... it's getting a bit twitchy now... Maguire's safety has caught the middle pocket knuckle so here's a chance for Joe, but it's not easy... that's a cracking shot with the rest, he's on the black, now it's a good chance..., he's made 43, he's a point ahead but he's caught the blue and had to take the yellow with the rest and he's missed it... so 51-50 and the yellow is on for Maguire.. this brown isn't easy... the pink is on the side cushion and Maguire can only be 13 up without it, he's got the brown okay, he's on the blue but cueing from under the cushion... so does he try a long pink down the rail, now he's played safe, he's 13 ahead.. about the only thing this match hasn't had yet is a re-spot black...Maguire's got the pink and now leads 12-11... Maguire has the first visit, but only has a couple of open reds at the moment... his run ends at 26... there's a chance for Joe now, but the reds aren't that easy to get on... no, he can't get position, a good safety by Joe... Maguire's caught that all wrong, scattered reds about and left Perry a very easy starter... so far so good for Joe, onto 31, he's ten points ahead, only one more open reds, the last three are near the side cushion... he can't get on them, forced to play safe, Maguire swerves to hit the reds and flukes one right down the rail - how's your form! he doesn't get position so now the key safety on the last two reds... a miss by Maguire and Perry has got the reds, just a colour and Maguire will need a snooker, he's 29 ahead on the yellow... which he misses... Maguire goes in off and concedes, so we're going to have a late night Crucible decider... a laugh to start off as Jan Verhaas forgot to put the blue on its spot... a great opening safety by Maguire snookers Perry on everything... safely negotiated... Maguire's missed a pot and that's opened a few reds up for Perry... he's made 33 but he's missed the pack so it's end of break... now for some more playing safe into the pack from the top cushion because there's a red near the baulk line... both have attempted reds and both missed them, the tension is nearly unbearable now... now here's a chance for Joe, he's already 33 ahead and there's enough open reds for him... that should be enough to take Joe Perry into his first world semi final... he's 61 ahead and that 54 wins him the match, a tremendous performance... now the fitters will work through the night to re-rig the arena, down to one table - join us at 14.00 on Thursday for the semi finals. |
