Match Notes Good morning, welcome to the first session of this Quarter Final match... Peter Ebdon slots home the first red to get a scoring chance, from which he makes 36... Captain Carter has created his first scoring chance... nicely along to 36 now... his run ends at 50, two reds left... Ebdon's pushed a red near the pocket, a chance for Carter to clinch the frame... he's 30 up on the green... he's got the green... Ebdon gets away first in frame two... but only makes 24 from that opening... Carter's created an opening now... Ali's pushed on to 26 and into the lead in the frame... he's made 57 at that visit and immediately gets another chance, from which he wins the frame... Ebdon's first out of the blocks in frame three... 39 constructed so far, breaks ends at 50... he's got another chance as Carter missed a brown... and has clinched the frame... Carter's left Ebdon a chance here in frame four... the black is still covered but there are plenty of open reds... and he's constructed 51 now at this visit... onto 65 but a thumping kick leaves the white on the cushion and that 71 brings him level at the interval.. On their return Ebdon is first to get a scoring chance from which he makes 27... Ebdon's back at the table.. he's cleared with 72, another good break and we've had over 50 in every frame so far... Ebdon's making progress in frame six... but only 29 that time and Carter gets a scoring visit now... another good break in progress, 44 so far and now onto 61m just the last red needed and he has, with a 91 clearance, so the scores are level again.. Ebdon fails at 12 and leaves Carter with reds on... nicely on to 38 and in very good position... and he promptly misses the next red with the rest.. Neither player can get a good opening at the moment, there are still six reds on the table, pink is tied up, black is on the side cushion... and the safety is fairly easy... good red from Carter but no position... Ali manufactures another opening, this time he does find a colour so can add to his 45-13 lead here, he needs another red still... he's 45 up with 43 on but hasn't got a red on... Ebdon's got the last two reds and he'll lay the snooker on the yellow... which he does, he's 30 behind with 27 left on... Carter's hit the black so Ebdon can win... Ebdon puts Carter in even more trouble on the green, he's missed it once... Ebdon is only 16 behind now.. another miss and he's left it on.. Ebdon turns the screw a little tighter, takes the green and lays another snooker on the brown, another foul and miss... he's hit it but left a pot on, Ebdon's hot favourite now to win the frame... and he has, what a frame that was... into the last frame of the session, Carter has a good opening, made 29 now... he'd love to come out of the session level... the frame ball goes astray, he's 65-0 ahead, six reds left... Ebdon's got an opening red, the balls aren't set well, but he's trying to work his way back into the frame... he's found another red but dislodging the last three off the cushion won't be easy, but he had an angle off the pink and now they're all on.. if Carter loses this frame too he'll be very disappointed, he was well set to lead 5-3 at the end of the session but could trial 5-3 now.. the last red disappears down the rail, Ebdon still needs all the colours.. he's missed a hard yellow using the rest, it's run safe... Carter clears the colours to level the match... Good evening and welcome to the second session, a fascinating session this morning left the match level at 4-4, can one or other player win this session to gain an overnight lead... a long tactical exchange has developed at the start of this frame... Carter emerges from that lengthy exchange with a scoring chance... he's put 27 on the board already and finishes with 55, Carter nips in to put the frame beyond Ebdon's reach... This time Ebdon wins the opening safety battle... and going well, 52 ahead with this run of 48 and now past 70, it's a frame winner.. this is magnificent by Ebdon, a century now and a possible 143 total clearance on... and he's got it, superb... Carter's a dream opening in the next, he could make a very sizeable break... 62 already and still plenty more to add... frame is safe now, he can concentrate on a century, he's robbed by a thumping kick, but a good 79... It's punch and counter-punch at the moment, here's Ebdon on a good run again, 34 so far and he broke down, but he's back again now adding to that lead and he's done enough there to take the frame and level the match at the interval, another great break, an 84 clearance there from Ebdon... Four more frames to play tonight, Carter gets in first but misses blue off its spot and gives Ebdon a chance, he's come right round the table to try and split the pack, he's stuck on them but has just dislodged one red, fortune favours the brave... he's had to play safe now as there's nothing on... the pack is very tight still but this safety exchange should loosen thing sup a bit... There is a stunning pot from Ebdon, stopped the white on a sixpence from ten foot away, but it's not a scoring chance... he's done it again, a brilliant red but can't convert it into a scoring visit... Ebdon leads 35-15, seven reds still left... and there's a fantastic red from Carter and he has got a chance of putting some points together... 32 made so far and he's moved ahead in the frame, 3 reds left... Carter produces a brilliant 81 clearance to regain the lead... Ebdon's got a marvellous opening in the next, 25 so far but he's landed on the cushion so this black isn't easy, well it shouldn't have been, he's blasted it in... and he's moved on to 48 now, and in good position... he's got two more open reds but needs to think about dislodging the pack soon, he's on 56, it's all blacks so far... onto 72, frame safe, now he can chase the 147... onto 80, the pack is still tight, four reds clustered together... 88 and it's on now with the four reds open... that's a was a tough black, thin to hold for the reds, 96... Ebdon's made two 147s in tournaments before, the 1991 Strachan Professional and the 1992 UK Championship, there's the century and he's perfect on the red... crowd gets very excited... I should think Ronnie is sticking pins in a voodoo doll right now! 112, one more red to go but this isn't an easy angle to get on the black... he's got the red, the black is going to be thin from distance... ooh how unlucky, it looked in, but it's hung on the lip.. That's an awful break off by Carter, he's clobbered the blue... Ebdon leaves a red on the rim of the pocket to leave Carter a nice easy start... from which he's moved on to 64, all blacks! onto 80, frame safe and now Carter's chasing a 147... 88 now but the next red is tricky... he's got it... 96 now... the blue is up in baulk so should he get that far, it might be the only problem... 104 and he's split the last two reds and they're both on... 112, one more red to pot.. he's got the reds, he's perfect on the yellow... here comes the key shot, brown to get on the blue so that he can get up for the pink... looks good... he's on the pink... and he's on the black... but the white is near the cushion... he's done it - and that's history... there's never been two 147s in the same event - Carter is delirious and so is the crowd.. Ebdon hugs him.. Both players left the arena to calm themselves down a bit... the situation is now that the £147,000 for the maximum and the £10,000 high break are now shared between Ronnie and Ali, that's unless someone else makes one and I wouldn't bet against it... so after all that excitement there is one more frame to play tonight and Ebdon would like to win it to level the match again... Carter has won that safety exchange and moved onto 33... but no more at that visit... they've been engaged on another lengthy safety battle, most of the reds have moved to one side of the table... Carter's left one for Ebdon but he'll have some work to do here to make a good break... he's missed the black, only 15 scored... Carter can get at the reds, he's moved 49-15 ahead but missed that pink, and Ebdon gets another chance, 34 down, but 4 reds still there... one more red left, Ebdon is only 15 behind now, but he's broken down, Carter chips in and clinches the frame on the green to take a 9-7 overnight lead... Good morning, welcome back, well after all the excitement last night in this match, I wonder if the lads got any sleep, particularly Ali Carter who leapt round the Crucible arena in delight after compiling his first tournament 147... Ebdon gets 13 on the board but it's back to the safety now... Ebdon manufacturers another opening, he's moved 43-0 ahead, 3 reds on the side rail, 4 down in baulk... his break moves along to 50, now 63 ahead... and that excellent red to the middle pocket secures the frame... Carter has a scoring chance in this frame, but having made 26 he's missed the pink.. the reds aren't well set at the moment... Carter's got another visit, only two open reds, 3 on the side rail, one on the top cushion, he's missed the open red and left it on for Ebdon... he makes only 14 at that visit, another chance for Ebdon... and another but he's 53-20 behind at the moment, Carter nips in to pinch the frame and leads 10-8... Carter opens the next with 22 but leaves Ebdon in, he only makes one, but he's played a very good safety shot to put Carter in trouble... Ebdon only moves his score along to 39... Carter also lets his chance slip... Ebdon leads 39-30, two reds left, both safe at the moment... Carter can pot one of the reds, he's got a chance to clear up this scrappy frame now... and he has... Carter's on a run in the next, 22, he's begging to put clear water between himself and Ebdon... but he breaks down at 23, he's back at the table with a chance to increase his lead... he has but only 49-0 and here's comes the Ebdon counter visit... onto 31 so far, he's faltered at 47 and left Carter the colours on... 11 up on the blue... Ebdon needs a snooker on the pink... and he's played a brilliant shot to get the white in behind the black.. Carter escapes, Ebdon gets it behind the black again but not hard to hit... Carter gets the long pink to go 12-8 up... Interval over and Carter is first to embark on a break.. on 27 at the moment... he breaks down at 38, there's a red on for Ebdon... this is a tough break so far, some very hard shots, but he's progressed to 30... forced to play safe at 38, so scores are level, four reds left, all safe at the moment.. Ebdon pots an incredible red and he could clear here, barring a hard last red along the baulk cushion.. he's got it and now 20 up on the brown, which is unmissable... so he's pulled a frame back but Carter still has a three frame lead, needing one for victory... Ebdon's got Carter snookered and that failed escape gives Ebdon an opening red... Ebdon's fouled so the chance has gone... now it's Carter's turn to foul, he's gone in off, he leads 35-9, the reds are open so this safety exchange is crucial... Ebdon misses a long red and now here's the chance Carter needs... and he's done it and he's into the semi finals... |
