Match Notes Good morning and a very warm welcome to the start of this match, it's Ryan Day's first appearance in the quarter finals of the World Championship... it's also a first quarter final appearance for referee Brendan Moore, who's made is Crucible debut this year... a nice long red gets Day started... some early nerves still, he's missed and given Hendry a very good chance with the balls already spread.. oh dear, Hendry has missed the easiest black you'll ever see and Day gets a let off and the good chance now goes to the Welshman... nicely done so far by Ryan, he's compiled 42 so far and leads 56-9... the break reaches 66 and the first frame goes to the Welshman... Hendry's first shot goes wrong in frame two and he's left a red over the pocket... Day's made 31 from the leave... Hendry's found a long range plant and that's created a decent chance for him here from which he makes 31 so the scores are level but Day can add more here... he's missed the blue, only 13 scored and Hendry is plumb on the red... he's got the hard last red down the rail so should be plain sailing now... should have been until he missed a routine green.. he's nine ahead, at least the green has run safe... Day's left the green on and Hendry's got it and added the brown, he's got a hard blue down the rail with the rest to secure the frame... he's got it, so it's 1-1... this safety exchange will be crucial in frame three, the reds are very well spread... Day fails to escape a snooker so he's got a problem here to get them safe... he can't, he's left Hendry a great chance to put a big break together.. and only makes 32 before missing a little cut back... Hendry's got a good long red there and this time should win the frame... and he has... Onto frame four and Day has left a red on to get Hendry started... he's already moved on to 48, all blacks... he's got one more open red then he'll have to split the last four apart.. 64 now... 80... great shot he's picked one out from the four and opened them all... onto 96 and it's a great chance now.. Hendry would not have enjoyed seeing O'Sullivan taking his record away yesterday... ooh, he's got a terrible kick off the red and now this is a very hard black... he's got it and he's still on the reds... 104... I hope Ronnie found time to get to the bookies lat night to cover his bet... 112... he's missed the red... but he's 3-1 up at the interval... They're back from their interval, the safety is opening the reds up... Hendry gets the better of that exchange and has first run at the reds... he's moved smoothly along to 52 and has the frame at his mercy now, nearly but he's missed that red on 68 and it would have secured the frame... Day can't mount a counter attack and Hendry's got the red he needed and now leads 4-1 and he's looking in very god form apart from the occasional unexplained miss... Ryan's missed a hard long red, he's left Hendry in again, ominous signs for the Welshman... Hendry's unlucky, he's knocked a red in when splitting the pack.. he'd made 23 and now he's left Ryan a gift start and he needs it after sitting in his chair for so long... and he runs out of position and misses a harder red having made only 19.. no damage down at the moment.. another chance for Day... he's progressed his score to 43 but faltered there and Hendry is 58-43 ahead and on the yellow... cracking long green and he's won another frame... there's a slice of luck for Day, he's fluked a red off his safety, but can only play safe now... now Day has screwed back in off a red, again no pot left for Hendry... the reds are all getting closer to the top cushion and not in good position... Hendry forces two misses from Day with a very nasty snooker, he's not left a red so it's gone back again.. another miss, he needs to come off at least four cushions to reach the reds... this time he's left a red on... it's not much of a chance though... now Hendry's got Day in trouble again on the safety, he can see the red so must hit something this time... Hendry now has a 42-19 lead... Ryan's turned the tables now and got Hendry in all sorts of trouble with this snooker... there are still eight reds left... good hit and safe at that attempt... Hendry wins that saety exchange and the reds have opened a little now, five left, Hendry leads 50-25 and he's cleared up to go further ahead... one more frame in the session, Day desperately needs it for a bit of damage limitation... Hendry thunders home a long red, splits the pack and has a great chance for a big break... he's got his mind on a 147 attempt again... onto 40, not a safe red on the table... a kick spoils his position so he can only run safe with 49 on the board... Hendry gets a fluke which enables him to lay a tight snooker and that yield Hendry the chance to close out the frame.. an excellent morning's work for the Scot, disastrous for Day. Good evening, welcome back... one thing is certain, Ryan Day must win this session at worst 5-3, to have any chance going into tomorrow's final session... a good start for him, he's got the first chance to construct a break, he's quickly onto 41 and then misses a simple black... there are a lot of open reds waiting for Hendry to pounce, which he does but there's a miss for no reason on 37, a reprieve for Ryan... he's 18 up on the last two reds which he nudged from the side cushion but not into pottable positions... an error from Ryan, Hendry is nicely on the yellow, should be easy enough to clear to the pink to snatch the frame... Again Ryan starts the frame well, onto 44, can he turn this into a frame winning visit.. nicely onto 60 and in prime position still and then for no reason misses frame ball red on 68... he's made up for it, great long red so now he's 69 up with 67 left... he's mopping up the remnants and that will make him feel a bit better now... Only a few shots played and the balls have got themselves in a terrible mess, as has Ryan, he's snookered himself on all the colours and has missed his attempt three times already... gets it at the fourth attempt... the brown is the only ball the baulk side of the blue spot... pink is nestling against the blue, black is tied up on the top cushion, yellow and green are up amongst the reds... Day's finding a route through the chaos, he's got all the baulk colours back on their spots now, pink is back in play, black is still tied up... he's made 63 now and Hendry needs snooker which he doesn't get and Day dishes up with some entertaining exhibition shots... Hendry's worked an opening in frame twelve, he could do with a substantial visit to stop Ryan's little revival, he makes 25 and now they're totally bogged down in a stalemate so they'll have a re-rack and this time it's Ryan who gets amongst the balls, he's lost position there trying to split the pack, only 27... well he's found a plant to keep the break going... but this time he is out of position so will sit on a 30 point lead... Hendry hits the pack too thick, Day gets in but misses blue to the green pocket and now it's a great chance for Hendry from which he makes 54, but he's miss the penultimate red with the rest, he leads 54-31... Day's back at the table, he's got the reds, he's on the yellow... the blue is near the green pocket, on the rail, and he's on it, but can he get out for the pink... just 4 points behind now... he doesn't get the pink and Hendry has double-kissed his safety on the pink... Day's completed the clearance, good comeback in the frame and a good session for him as they go to the interval... Day gets the first scoring chance on their return... but only makes 14... Hendry makes a plant and gets a great flick on the black which puts it into a pottable position, so with reds wide spread it's a great chance... Hendry has misjudged his position there, end of break at 25, a let off for Ryan... quite a long tactical exchange has developed, a rare feature in this match... Hendry puts paid to that with a long red... he's moved on to 42-14 ahead but he's given a chance to Day now... he misses, Hendry doesn't... and it's 9-4... Hendry was going nicely on 37 when he's got a massive kick, to compound it, he's gone in off the pink on his safety shot... Day slots a red in... and rolls up behind the yellow... Day has a one point lead but Hendry has an easy red to centre... Hendry breaks down with a 20 point lead, letting Day in again and Day pinches the frame... Day moves on to 22 but he's let Hendry back to the table, he's let that one go to the jaw... so another chance for Day... five reds left, three of them on cushions... there's a super red to the middle off the cushion to keep the break going, Ryan's 43-26 ahead but he's missed that blue... two reds left... an error from Day and he's left both reds on for Hendry.. and that 30 clearance to the pink stretches his lead... Into the last of the night, Hendry nails a red, stops perfectly on the black, good chance although the black's gone up on the green spot... he's got the pink available, moves 37-0 ahead... and now 66 ahead and that frame is in the bag too, so Hendry leads 11-5 overnight... Good afternoon, this is the final session of this match, you'd think it would be an easy run to the line for Hendry, but we've already seen some remarkable recoveries this week, so Ryan will be fighting hard... Day only compiles one point at his first visit and lets Hendry in, who's wasted no tie in getting right amongst the reds, with the black in play.. he's powering on here, onto 42 and looking in extremely good form...so he promptly breaks down on 48! Day makes 23 before losing position and then mis hits his safety o Hendry has a chance at the last four reds, doesn't get them at that visit but Ryan misses and lets him in again and Hendry closes out the frame, one from victory... and here's a chance to clinch the match... onto 32... he'll have to wait a little longer, he's missed on 46 and Day is right back in the frame now, four ahead on the blue.. and he wins the frame... Day is at the table again in frame 19.. he's determined to prolong the match as long as possible and this has been a good break of 71... and he's won another frame... Hendry pots a stunning red to start the next, perfect on the black, now he's split the pack and has everything on for him... well he struggled for position a few times and has to play safe with only 37 to his name... Hendry finds another red from Day's safety... the end is in sight now for Ryan... the lead is 59, but is there another red on? no, he's had to play safe, here's the red he wanted... victory is secured and Hendry goes on to the semi final - and what a semi final - Hendry v O'Sullivan... |
