Match Notes

Good evening welcome to the first nine frames of this first round match... a promising start for Maguire, he's rattled along to 30 already... he's broken but got straight back in again and that's the opening frame secured... The Scot is looking good already in the second, on 22 and in good position... he's recovered now from the flu which hampered his preparation last week... this has been an excellent break, can he close out with a century, yes he can, brilliant... a chance falls to Hamilton in the third, can he get his reknowned break building going here... he's made 36... a high quality tactical battle now  and Hamilton's won it, he can build on his 36-19 lead now... not now he can't, he's sportingly declared a foul on himself... Hamilton still lead 53-48 and the blue is safe, but now Maguire has a shot at it... but he elects to play safe, in fact it's a snooker...

Hamilton misses and it's put back, he's got it this time but now Maguire has a 6 point lead... and he's taken the frame with blue and pink... Maguire is rapidly heading for a 4-0 lead, his break is up to 6- in the fourth... and he does with that 83... they go off for the interval now... Maguire has powered through a frame winning break on the resumption, he's in stunning form tonight and he's furious to miss on 82... this really is one way traffic. Maguire is "on-fire" as they say and he's made 43 in the next but this time he has broken down so a chance for Hamilton, who must be feeling shell shocked at the moment... he's responded with 36 and is only a point behind with 2 reds left, but he's got a horrible red along the rail to keep the break going... he opts for safety... Maguire's got the green, so he's only two behind as the safety exchange which resumes on the brown... Maguire gets the brown and he's added blue and pink to stretch his lead.. and now he's got maximum in his mind, 32 so far but not if he misses blacks off their spot, a very rare miss by Maguire tonight, only 33 scored... Hamilton can't pot the red that's left.. Maguire's back in and added another 24 already, 64 ahead, just one red needed so it's 7-0... business as usual in the next as Maguire pots the first red and sets out on another break... up to 54, it's not been an easy break this, it is superlative break-building by Maguire...

At last Hamilton gets a red to pot, a good cut back black and a chance to build a break in the last frame of the night... he's made 48 but snookered himself on the reds now... he escapes okay but it's end of break... he's got another chance and now he should win his first frame of the match... and he does...

Hello again, welcome back for the conclusion of this first round match... Hamilton is first amongst the balls, he was effectively frozen out of the match last night by on-fire Maguire, but we all know what a brilliant break-builder he is, and he'll need to be to make any sort of fight back tonight... and what a start a frame-winning break in one visit... and another century to add to Hamilton's list... Hamilton's run away to 44 in the next, and now we are seeing his free-flowing scoring... he breaks down there but Maguire's given him another chance.. but he can't make anything at that visit... Hamilton gets a third chance... and he's won the frame... Maguire's got his first real scoring chance now in frame twelve, onto 25 and counting... Maguire has his mind set on a 147 here, 56, all reds open, just one down the table near the brown... 80... 96... 104, two reds left...  it's going to get up from the black for the last red... so 112 and a long red needed now, he has got an angle to come back round the table again... no he's missed the red, a great effort and he's one frame from victory now... he's missed his first colour there and given Hamilton a good opening... Hamilton's thrown that away at 46 and now here's the chance for Maguire to close out the match... he's made 63 but he's not come nice on the yellow, he's trickled it in but he's not on the green good now, it's all he needs for the match... he doesn't get the green, he'll have to wait for another chance... down goes the green and Maguire marches into round two to face Neil Robertson
