Biography

Whatever else he does in his career, Jamie Burnett assured himself a page in snooker's history books when, in the qualifying rounds of the 2004 UK Championships at Pontin's, he compiled a world record break of 148.

His break came about thanks to a free ball. He took the brown as an extra red and completed a 16 red clearance, followed by the colours.

It is the first time anyone has achieved a break over 147 in a world ranking event.

For the record Burnett went on to beat his opponent, Leo Fernandez, 9-8.

"I didn't even realise I was on it until I'd got over 100 and saw that a 148 was on," he said.
"I didn't really know how to react afterwards. At first I thought it was no big deal, but then I realised I'd made history".
