| Qatar ends Bahrain's winning run 28 December 2004 | ||
QATAR
ended Bahrain's winning run in 12th GCC Snooker Championship,
holding them to an exciting 2-2 draw in Dubai. Bahrain won both the team and seniors singles matches but lost the doubles and singles under-21 encounters to lose the spot at the top of the table in the six-team event. In the team competition, Bahrain beat Qatar 2-1 as veteran cueist Monther Jawad put them on road edging out Nasser Al Habib 4-3. ![]() Ghuloom Abbas, who received the best break prize of Dhs300 for his 66, made it 2-0 for Bahrain defeating Mohammed Bin Ali 4-1 but Bahrain's Hisham Al Saqer lost his game 1-4 to Fahad Al Mohammadi. Bahrain extended their lead by winning the seniors singles through Habib Subah who outplayed Mohsen Abdulaziz 4-1. With this victory Subah stays on course to retain the singles title. Qatar bounced back to win the doubles game 3-1 thanks to Adel Al Ammadi and Ahmed Al Sada who tamed Bahrain's Hussain Jamsheer and Omar Asheq. It was the first defeat for Jamsheer and Asheq in the tournament. The pair won their previous two games against Oman and Saudi Arabia. Qatar's Ahmed Saif (left) defeated Bahrain's Mohammed Al Shaikh (right) 4-2 in the under-21 singles category to level the scores. Bahrain take on Kuwait on Thursday before clashing with hosts and reigning champions the UAE in the last match on Friday. |
