Bahrain team overcome Saudi Arabia                                                27 December 2004
BAHRAIN clinched their second successive victory in the GCC Snooker Championship defeating Saudi Arabia 3-1  in Dubai.

After their comprehensive 4-0 win over Oman in their opening match, Bahrain marched on to claim a fine victory against the Saudis and stayed in contention for the title. Bahrain next take on Qatar in a crunch match.

Bahrain began the teams competition losing 1-2 with Hisham Al Saqer and Ghuloom Abbas losing their encounters 3-4 to Sultan Omran and 0-4 to Nasser Assiri, respectively, but Monther Jawad (left) beat Helmi Assiri of Saudi Arabia 4-1 in the third game.

Then Bahrain came back and won the seniors singles, the under-21 singles and the doubles games to snatch a crucial win.

In the seniors singles, Bahrain's top player Habib Subah lived up to expectations defeating Ahmed Assiri 4-2, while Mohammed Al Shaikh won the under-21 clash against Suliman Al Misfer 4-0 to put Bahrain 2-1 ahead.

The kingdom's side secured the triumph in the doubles when Hussain Jamsheer (right) and Omar Asheq defeated Saudi's Essa Al Moula and Omar Al Ajlani 3-2 in a close encounter.

Six teams - Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and the UAE - are taking part in the tournament which concludes on Saturday.
