Global Snooker Countries - Finland

Finland is one of the developing European snooker countries, but they have already made their mark on the international stage in no uncertain terms.

Led by their best known player Robin Hull, the name of Finland is now firmly established on the world snooker map. Hull's rapid rise up the world professional rankings has culminated in him breaking into the elite World Top 32 for the 2003-4 season.

Also working his way steadily through the WSA Challenge Tour is Jussi Tyrkko.

The likes of Tyrkko, Hull, Pasanen, Vayrynen, Lang, Hamalainen and many others have taken Finland to the latter stages and victory in countless prestigious international events.

Finland's ladies have broken through in international competition as well. Two of their competitors Riitta Koskinen and Aino Pehkonen both reached the quarter finals of the 2003 European Ladies Championship in Germany.

And it's not just on the table that Finland shines in international snooker circles. Finland, thanks to the efficient work of their officials behind the scenes, has staged many international tournaments, which not only provide a great chance for Finnish players to compete, but widen awareness of snooker in the country and bring much sought after media coverage.
